The Urban Research Collective was established in 2009 by Jonathan Atkinson (previously with UHC Collective, Corporate Watch) and Pete Abel (previously with the Omega Research Foundation). Urban Research Collective is incorporated as a Community Interest Company and provides a framework for associate researchers and activists.
We explore and engage in urban scenarios which:
- increase the participation of the citizen in governance- challenge economic and power inequalities within cities- aid the process of social change- incorporate the highest levels of environmental sustainability
- promote co-operation in all aspects
We do this through:
- Research; including progressive real world and action research methods
- Direct engagement in political activities
- Collaboration with activists, campaigners, artists and people working in different disciplines
- Dissemination through press and other communication channels
Why urban?
- Cities hold the key to the future.- A need exists to re-imagine the role of cities in a world increasingly effected by climate change and other environmental perturbations.
- Looking for a holistic solution that links cities to surrounding rural areas.
